The Closer's Tony Denison and Kyra Sedgwick in Explosive Season Opener Tonight
Exploding back on screen, THE CLOSER returns to TNT tonight 9/8c with "Old Money" featuring Tony Denison's character Detective Flynn.
- Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) December 07, 2010 - Tony Denison, star of cable's #1 show TNT's The Closer, which stars Emmy winner Kyra Sedgwick, will kick off the season opener with the most explosive episode ever. The Closer's premiere episode "Old Money," airs December 6, 2010 at 9/8c on TNT.
TV Guide Magazine recently said the episode, "…Won't skimp on action, Denison's character is right in the thick of it." "This episode is very exciting, with probably one of the best fight scenes choreographed on a television series that I can think of in recent memory…"
Alongside Deputy Chief Brenda Lee Johnson (Kyra Sedgwick), Tony Denison works hard as Detective Andy Flynn to put away LA's biggest thugs and hoodlums. Born the son of a Sicilian truck driver, Tony says his Dad instilled the value of hard work in him telling TNT, "My Dad is my hero." Denison held down jobs as a carpenter, construction worker, newspaper editor, chauffeur, and a life-insurance agent before his breakout role as Ray Luca in the critically acclaimed drama series "Crime Story." He received high accolades for his portrayal including TIME Magazine recognizing him as one of television's best villain of the 1980s.
Tony says he drew on his humble beginnings in Harlem, New York to bring his on-screen character "Lieutenant Andy Flynn" to life. "I always want to be known as the blue collar guy in a gold collar profession," His impassioned, toothpick-chewing portrayal has earned him 6 successful seasons and 4 SAG nominations.
The Closer seems to finally be getting the recognition it deserves with Kyra's recent Emmy win. Since its premiere in 2005, THE CLOSER has earned numerous ad-supported cable viewership records, ranking as the #1 series of all time and scoring the #1 series telecast of all time. For its sixth season, the show is averaging a series high of 8.4 million viewers. When asked what it was like to work with Kyra on set after she won the EMMY for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series, Denison said, "She was incredibly gracious to everyone and still her charming self. She's great about making sure everyone is having fun and is always attentive. There's never any tension on set."
Denison said his most memorable moment as an actor, "When I met Joe Pesci on set one day, I told him what a big fan I was of his work and he said, "Well I'm a big fan of yours too." He goes, "You know I did 'Casino,' right? I was doing you. You saw me with the toothpick, right?
What would Denison like to see happen to his character Detective Flynn in the future? "A love interest could be really intriguing. But I have to say the writers give me such great stuff already, it would be presumptuous for me to ask!"
