The Chef's Academy Participates In Rex Hospital Nutrition Competition
Local Culinary Institute Promotes Heart-Healthy Eating Through Cooking Competition At Rex Hospital.
- Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC (1888PressRelease) June 26, 2013 - The Chef's Academy (http://www.thechefsacademy.com), the Culinary Division of Harrison College, a 110-year-old, nationally-accredited institution that offers 40 degree programs in five schools of study, has announced that its culinary students will participate in the Rex Hospital Nutrition Competition. Students will compete for the opportunity to create a heart-healthy recipe that will be served to patients, staff and visitors of the hospital. To enter the competition, students in teams of two will submit specialized recipes for an entrée, side dish, sauce and garnish featuring local and seasonal ingredients. The recipes' ingredients and preparation will convey a message of health or healing and adhere to the nutritional parameters of a heart-healthy meal. Each heart-healthy dish will focus on and encourage controlled portions and an increased intake of fruits, vegetables and whole grains, while limiting fats and cholesterol.
Instructors at The Chef's Academy will select the top five finalists to compete in the live-action portion of the competition taking place in Rex Hospital's Courtyard Cafe on Wednesday, June 26. The chefs at Rex Hospital will select the winning dish and invite the winners to work alongside them as they prepare the dish for the nearly 3,000 staff and patients under the hospital's care.

"We are so appreciative of Rex Hospital for encouraging our students to apply both their culinary skills and knowledge of nutrition in this educational and fun setting."
"Rex is proud to partner with The Chef's Academy as part of our ongoing efforts to show patients and visitors to our hospital that healthy food can also be delicious," said Jim McGrody, Rex's director of food and nutrition. "Rex is a leader in serving fresh, restaurant quality food, even for patients on dietary restrictions.
