- Portland-Vancouver, OR-WA (1888PressRelease) August 14, 2011 - Every seven minutes a child is bullied. This is beyond unacceptable. Northwest Fighting Arts will be providing free anti-bullying seminars to families in the Portland area. The instructors at NWFA believe no child should have to face this hardship unprepared. The free seminar will be of Friday, September 30th at 5:30pm. Space is limited so pre-registration is encouraged.
Bullying has become so common that some studies show 7 out of 10 children will face this harassment at school. The effects of this mental and physical punishment can involve depression, significantly reduced academic performance, low self esteem and potential injuries when bullying turns violent. It is an unfortunate fact that victims of bullying cannot rely on teachers or peers for help. Only 25% of children who have suffered from bullying report that a teacher intervened. Even though most teachers would try to help a child in trouble, they cannot be everywhere.

The seminar held at NWFA will focus on teaching children effective skill to counter bullying. Children will be taught to avoid confrontation as the best course. They will be shown how one can often negate a bully by refusing to engage and simply walking away. If corner they will be trained to show courage. Bullies attack what they perceive as vulnerable targets. If you become a challenge they will be less likely to target you in the future. Finally, children will be shown how to physically defend themselves if absolutely necessary.
