The British School, celebrated the "Primary School Book Week" from 28th Nov-2nd Dec.
- (1888PressRelease) December 08, 2011 - New Delhi: The British School, one of India's best known schools for its high quality international education based on the National Curriculum of England, IGCSE and the IB Diploma Programme, celebrated the "Primary School Book Week" from 28th November-2nd December. The theme for the book week is 'Books from around the world'. This theme provides a wonderful opportunity to explore and celebrate cultural differences through literature, as well as to read books that transport us to new places and introduce us to new cultures. Talking about the benefit of the Book week, Mike Spencer, Principal of the Primary School said, there are three important ingredients to this celebration: age-appropriate and culturally diverse literature; the added value for the students of working with leading, published authors, and the involvement of so many parents and staff as readers of their chosen literature".
As a part of the lead up to Book Week, three prominent authors- John Dougherty, Satoshi Kitamura and Jeeva Raghunath are visiting the school on 24th and 25th November. They conducted workshops for students of different age groups. It will be a fun filled week with parents' reading, storytelling sessions, a book sale, competitions related to books and, more importantly, with books from around the world.
These authors are visiting Delhi as a part of the Bookaro festival http://www.bookaro.in http://www.bookaro.in. The British School is an official sponsor of the Bookaro festival.
Graham Ranger, Director of The British School said, "Books remain central to students' learning, alongside digital media. We will celebrate diversity this week but we will also demonstrate the power of literature to inspire creative and divergent thinking".
