- (1888PressRelease) March 23, 2012 - The British School celebrated Sports Day at The Thyagaraj Stadium this year, giving students a chance to access high quality Commonwealth Games facilities. All secondary students participated in the day and contributed to the success of their house. The sports day was mainly athletics based and focused on the Olympic ethic that everyone can compete regardless of ability. It focused on 'Sports for ALL'. As an international school, this focus directly linked to DeCourbetin's message that 'people of all nations come together in peace and friendship'. The Chief Guest of the function was Mr. Vijay Dahiya, Former Wicket Keeper, Indian Cricket Team.
It was a fantastic day that saw students pledge their allegiance to sport, their school and their individual houses. Students were enthused by the commonwealth stadium and its quality towards professional sporting performances. Competition was fierce and students got the opportunity to achieve whether competing in a new event for the first time, achieving a personal best or achieving a new school record.
Ms. Anjali Singh, a parent of two students in the school had to say- "The Sports Day was one of the finest I've attended in five years! The atmosphere was fantastic, it was very well planned by the Sports Department (a huge thank you!). The venue added to the electric atmosphere and although I was there from morning until long past 2pm there were so many new events taking place, that time just sped by without any of us realising it. It was overall, a fantastic day out, supporting the students and the school. Well done all! "
Ms Vanita Uppal, the Secondary School Principal said-" The Sports Day was a superb and befitting end to what has been a remarkable third term. The first Sports Day in a Commonwealth stadium clearly had a special, professional feel to it. A Sports Day on a professional track and field made a big difference-more so because the students made the extra special effort for it to be worthwhile. Months of preparation, hard work and attention to detail made this possible. A day marked for fun and physical fitness, it was characterised by participation, enthusiasm and a sense of newness and change. Our Chief Guest, Mr. Vijay Dahiya urged students to participate actively and make sports a way of life. It was great to see a fair number of parents come in and support the event - clearly a day for the community to celebrate student participation collectively. A fantastic celebratory event all round."
