The British School hosted The Annual Sports Day for Deepalaya and Annapoorna schools
The British School held an annual sports day for the children from Deepalaya and Annapoorna on Saturday, 21st January 2012.
- (1888PressRelease) February 03, 2012 - New Delhi - It was a great success! Organised and coordinated by the students, under the guidance of the CAS (Community, Action and Service) Coordinator and the sports teachers, it was well planned and delivered. There was great enthusiasm by the Year 12 volunteers as well as the Deepalaya and Annapoorna participants. There were competitive sporting events such as high jump, long jump and track races which really boosted team spirit. And there was also a fun event, the sack race, which was very entertaining for both Deepalaya and The British School students. The final event was the tug of war which was a wonderful experience. It was a match between The British School and the Deepalayaschool. Though The British School students won the first round, Deepalaya students caught up fast in the second round. Finally, we handed out certificates and medals to the participants and winners from both Annapoorna and Deepalaya, which immediately led to great excitement and joy, bringing huge smiles on everyone's face. It was a very fulfilling experience, giving back to the community what many of us have been taking for granted.
Ms. Vanita Uppal, Principal, Secondary School commented "It was extremely encouraging to witness and participate in this event where there was a complete synergy between young people from diverse socio economic and cultural backgrounds. The shared excitement of winning and cheering new found friends on the tracks was truly inspirational".
About Deepalaya
Deepalaya is a non - government development organisation working on issues affecting the urban and rural poor, with a special focus on runaway children. For the past 32 years Deepalaya has been working in the urban slums of Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand to fulfill its belief that 'every child deserves a chance'. The British School has been supporting Deepalaya for the last five to six years in different ways. 'Annapoorna' is a school-run project, initiated by a parent of the school three years ago, for empowering the children in a resettlement colony opposite the school.
