  • Phoenix-Mesa, AZ (1888PressRelease) May 16, 2012 - The Bra Recyclers and the Healthy Breast Program at the UC Davis student run Willow Clinic, are partnering to provide recycled bras to local homeless and low income women. Bras will be provided to women at the upcoming Homeless Connect 2012 on June 2nd at Sacramento City College.

Homeless Connect 2012 is modeled after San Francisco's Project Homeless Connect. The one-day event provides local homeless people with resources to aid in self-sufficiency. Resources and services provided to local homeless attendees include, housing and employment programs, vision and dental screenings, free ID cards, legal counseling, bicycle repair, HIV and Hepititis C testing, and this year free bras provided by The Bra Recyclers.

"We jumped at the opportunity to provide bras to women attending the 2012 Homeless Connect event in Sacramento. So many people underestimate the power a properly fitted bra can have in motivating a woman towards self-sufficiency and boosting their self confidence. As a textile recycling company focusing uniquely in bras, we find events like Homeless Connect 2012 the perfect opportunity to "support" women in need," The Bra Recyclers CEO and Founder, Elaine Birks Mitchell stated.

It is estimated that approximately 700 homeless people will be served at Homeless Connect 2012 in Sacramento. According to Masaki Nagamine, Coordinator of the Healthy Breast Program, "The donations [of recycled bras] will be a rare and significant contribution for the women and we hope that we can use the donations as some incentive to come to the event, where they can learn about other community agencies that can help them."

Homeless Connect 2012 will be held at the Sacramento City College on June 2nd. For more information on the event, or to volunteer, please contact Deanna Berg at info ( @ ) handsonsacto dot org dot
