The Black Doll Affair Holds a Town Hall Meeting
The Black Doll Affair & YWCA of Houston partner to empower girls & women.
- Houston, TX (1888PressRelease) July 24, 2012 - In a world of television shows like "Love & Hip-Hop," to discuss the challenges of raising girls in a hip-hop world, The Black Doll Affair (BDA), a philanthropic organization and self esteem movement for black girls and women, will hold a Parent & Tween Self-Esteem Town Hall meeting at the YWCA of Houston. The Black Doll Affair Town Hall Meeting will be hosted by the Founder of The Black Doll Affair, Dana Hill and her club members, The Black Dolls. Scheduled for Saturday, July 28, 2012 from 10am-12pm, parents and guardians of the general public are invited to attend with or without a girl age 11-17. No appointment is necessary.
The wheels of The Black Doll Affair movement began turning in 2007. Four years later, for its commitment in philanthropy and efforts to change the way black girls and women are perceived and perceive themselves; BDA has boarded thousands of supportive members called The Black Dolls. Entities such as Essence Magazine, The Tom Joyner Morning Show, The Microsoft Company, Meetup Inc., Mattel and the Dove Campaign for Real Beauty have each given boost to the BDA little movement that could. In 2009, supported by Georgia's Governor, Mayor, Atlanta City Council, GA House of Representatives and the GA State Senate, BDA received a Proclamation for Black Doll Affair Day [December 12] in the State of Georgia! The Black Dolls went on invitation to Congressman John Lewis' Washington DC office and President Obama's White House. Recently, BDA received a Volunteer Service Award from President Obama.

About The Black Doll Affair
Doll tests have revealed that black children prefer white dolls and view black dolls as ugly and bad. The Black Doll Affair is a social club of black women called The Black Dolls. To reverse doll tests results and remind black girls of their inner and outer beauty, these role models engage in philanthropic affairs, donate toy black dolls to little girls, have self-esteem building play dates with teens and host fun events (Black Doll Affairs) that uplift the black woman and increases her pride in hue. These are the "Affairs" of The Black Dolls! Recipients of President Obama's Volunteer Service Award, The Black Dolls range in shade and shape. Eighteen years and older, from college students to grandmothers, career women to ladies of leisure, they are role models that band together to tackle the black family's issues with shadeism, self hatred and low self-worth. To express the importance of community service, annually they donate hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars to charitable causes that affect all races.
