The Black Academy of Arts and Letters, along with its 35th Annual Black Music and The Civil Rights Movement Concert, is hosting a weekend of events in Dallas, Texas to celebrate the national holiday of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Film Director/Writer Charles Burnett, who will receive an Honorary Oscar for his lifetime of work, will be the guest speaker in Dallas at The Black Academy of Arts and Letters' 24-Hour FilmFeast, Nov. 18, 2017. Three of Mr. Burnett's films will be screened and he will participate in an audience talk-back following the last showing.
The Great Jazz Guitarist Chuck Loeb, who died Monday evening, was scheduled to perform at The Black Academy of Arts and Letters' Riverfront Jazz Festival on Sunday, Sept. 3, 2017. TBAAL is saddened by the news of his death and offers its condolences to his family, friends and fans.
To heighten the enjoyment of the 3-day Labor Day Weekend of the first TBAAL Riverfront Jazz Festival in Dallas, organizers are partnering with six local hotels to include free live jazz music after parties. In addition, a midnight to 2 a.m., Jazz Jam Session will be held at TBAAL's Naomi Bruton Main Stage on Friday and Saturday.
