Clay set out across the United States, on foot, to observe the conditions of Black Americans throughout the country. As the first American to have walked the treacherous miles across the United States from Harlem, New York to Watts, California, Willie T. Clay is now presenting a solution for America with his book The Big Walk.
"As Americans, we need to keep our focus off the problems of the past, and on implementing capital development strategies in Black America to create collective wealth; and to build a stabilized capitalistic standard for Black-controlled businesses," said Willie T. Clay, author of The Big Walk, a first hand account of the struggles faced by many Black Americans as observed by his historic walk across America.
In cooperation with Living Advantage, Inc., a Los Angeles nonprofit serving the foster youth community, The Big Walk will provide proceeds from the book to develop opportunities for our disadvantaged youth.

It was July 15, 2006 when the original Civil Rights Leader, the late Rev. Fred L. Shuttlesworth of Birmingham, Alabama and Cincinnati, Ohio, co-founder of The Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) in league with the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.; the honorable Mayor of Cincinnati, Mark Mallory; the late Bishop Abraham Swanson XII; and Dr. Kay Barksdale, Gospel Queen of Cincinnati, Ohio; organized the Willie T. Clay Day to recognize him as the torchbearer to continue the civil rights legacy into a positive awakening of the dream.
