The AVA group announces the acquisition of Melam
The AVA Group, who are the owners of Medimix soaps and personal care products, has acquired the Kerala-based Melam brand of food products from MVJ Foods. The acquisition, is through AVA Condiments LLP, which is a new subsidiary of AVA Cholayil Health Care, will include MVJ Foods' brands as well at its manufacturing facility at Kochi.
- (1888PressRelease) September 09, 2015 - Kochi : The Melam brand had started in 1992 and has an array of food products under it such as masalas, curry powders, spices, pickles, jams, sauces, rice and other products and is one of the oldest brands in Kerala; a household name. Since the start in 1992, Melam has had a strong domestic and foreign presence. Melam products are currently being exported to middle East and far Eastern countries as well as the USA, UK, Singapore and Australia.
AV Anoop, the chairman and managing director of the AVA Group said that initially, he would like to expand the business into Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. He was quoted saying, "We are glad to expand into the food business. Both the AVA Group's Medimix brand and Melam are household names built on quality and social commitment. We would like to build on this heritage and also expand into newer markets in India and overseas."
Dr. Kurian John Melamparambil, who is the chairman and managing director of M V J Foods (India) Pvt.Ltd., said, "Melam has been a pioneering brand that has connected deeply with Keralites and Malayalees across the country and overseas. The AVA Group and M V J Foods' share common traits, especially a focus on manufacturing quality products. The acquisition by the AVA Group will add to its strength and reach in other geographies."
