- (1888PressRelease) November 21, 2012 - Plenty of extreme sports fanatics in Australia and around the world cheered wildly at the recently concluded Crocodile Trophy in October 2012. They applauded the triumph of many mountain bikers who faced a gruelling race through the famous Australian Outback-a wild and untamed territory marked by arid, uneven roads, and soaring temperatures. The participants' physical endurance were tested to the limit as they pedalled through a course and a slope that covered 900 kilometres and 16,000 meters respectively.
Gerhard Schönbacher, the key organiser of the race, commented on the difficulty of the route and the new elements added to the event, which included more biking tracks and additional stage destinations. Overall, he was pleased with the success of the tournament, the turnout of spectators, and the increased number of bikers. With the organising team's efforts paying off very well, Schönbacher looked forward to improving the Crocodile Trophy in the coming years to attract new racers and help promote the tourism industry in Australia.
Winners of this year's race are Ivan Rybarik coming in as the overall champion, followed by Ondrej Fojtik and Wolfgang Krenn, who won the second and third place respectively. Rybarik arrived together with Fojtik and Krenn on the podium, congratulating his fellow victors and commented, "I just had such a good time racing the Crocodile Trophy this year." On the other hand, Josef Benetseder was considered the fastest biker, allowing him to get his first ever Crocodile Trophy stage victory. To this, he said, "Last year I got second three times, so I came back to win a stage".
