The America First or Last Movement Attempts to Replace NCLB
NCLB's failing policies is destroying millions of children lives, and seriously undermine the US Economic growth potential. America First or Last Movement is a grassroots initiative launched by the New Jersey Minority Educational Development organization to break its stronghold on our nation.
- (1888PressRelease) March 14, 2012 - The America First or Last Movement is a grassroots effort to reverse the damage that has been caused over the last decade, by the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) educational model. The movement's organizer, New Jersey Minority Educational Development (NJ MED) announced they will start working with organizations across the country this fall. And try to a rebuild an educational system that has seen the US lose its competitive edge in the new global economy.
Albert Mitchell II, the Executive Director of NJ MED, said, "Many prominent educational leaders have identified the No Child Left Behind Model as the leading factor in major corporations justifying outsourcing jobs in America. Because they claim there is a lack of a higher skilled workforce to draw from. We disagree. Just consider what's happening in China and different third-world countries, right now. Companies are moving jobs abroad to under mind the US economy, and taking advantage of the cheap labor, which includes children."
Mr. Mitchell added, "While those jobs could support US middle class and working-class families, and their communities. There being wiped out for profit to benefit Multinational Corporation's economic interest. This is exactly, what the NCLB represents, by helping spread the myth we have an unqualified workforce. With an educational system that breeds a 48% failure rate. Something has to happen here in America, and it has to begin at the grassroots level. Like any other time in American History went justice and freedom was threatened a movement arose from this level."
The America First or Last Movement will help work with local communities to develop a 10-year community educational action-plan. That will focus on public policies to inform people on issues affecting the economics of their community, as well as, providing youths and their families with both educational and social support services.
Starting in May, NJ MED will be looking to organize community partnerships for 50 to 100 nonprofit organizations with local colleges, businesses, parent organizations, and community family support agencies. If you or your organization would like to join, the America First or Last Movement will provide a $12,000 matching mini-grant to 2 nonprofit organization's community partnership groups in each state. For more information on how to apply, visit the Movement's website or contact your local school or college for details.
