The 2nd Annual Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage Summit 2011 to be Held in August, Beijing
Implementing the roadmap of CCUS technologies deployment.
- (1888PressRelease) April 20, 2011 - Asian Coalition for Climate and Energy is pleased to announce that the 2nd Annual Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage Summit 2011 (GCCUSS2011) which will be held during 23rd - 26th in Beijing.
GCCUSS2010 were successfully closed in Shanghai with progress on global collaboration for research and demo projects. Around 120 senior representatives from major stakeholders attended the summit, such as Global CCS Institute, AEP, Huaneng, Shenhua Group, Duke Energy, GE, LLNL, LBNL, CAS, CNOOC, SINOPEC, Shell, Alstom, Sasol, Anglo American, CATF, CSIRO, BRGM, RITE, and ENEA.
In the past 2010, the number of active or planned CCS projects grows around 11%, with 234 projects in total, as per the latest statistics released by Global CCS Institute. We are also glad to see "Carbon dioxide capture and storage in geological formations" is eligible as a basis for CDM projects, as agreed during COP16 in Cancun, which could be a big step towards commercialized CCS projects.
Behind the numbers, we see an urgent call for more large-scale demo projects to obtain data and best practice; a wider and deeper collaboration of research on economic capture technology from various industrial sources, and geological fundamentals for safe storage in long run, EOR/EGR/ECBM, and so on.
The 2nd Annual Global Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage Summit 2011 will continue to cover the above key subjects towards an international collaboration on CCUS technologies deployment by building an open dialogue for company executives, scientists, engineers, experts, officials, NGO representatives and other relevant stakeholders from worldwide this summer in Beijing.
The summit is initiated by Asian Coalition for Climate and Energy, supported by Clean Air Task Force, and organized by Asia Carbon Energy Co., Ltd.
