The presenters, Don Whitaker and Ashley Yeates, will discuss the critical need to support local artisans and American manufacturing. In a recent California Report story on Transpacific Partnership, it showed that there has been a loss of over 432,517 California jobs. In their presentations, Don and Ashley will focus on style, sustainability, craftsmanship, awareness and glamorizing careful consumerism. There will also be live demonstrations of furniture-making by Don Whitaker.

About Manufacturing Job Loss in America:
The reduction of tariffs on foreign goods and/or elimination of import quotas results in the elimination of companies and/or industries whose products are undercut by increases in foreign imports. One of the key factors that determine whether a foreign-made good is cheaper than the domestic good is the cost of labor in the country of origin. Workers losing jobs to imports or plant relocations overseas - and the communities and regions reliant on economic sectors destroyed by such shifts-find their futures uncertain. Even the strongest proponents of "free trade" theory believe in trying to assist these workers and communities to adjust to their altered futures, if for no other reason than to take the edge off of the anger about job-losing trade policies.

    About Ashley Yeates
A licensed attorney in Texas, Ashley Yeates left the legal profession to follow a passion for "making things beautiful." In 2001, Ashley Yeates launched the first of her enterprises - AYI & Associates - a boutique interior design firm. Established in Dallas, Texas, she moved the boutique firm to Carmel, California in 2005 to lead a more organic lifestyle. The move intensified a love for nature and shifted her design style to focus on sustainability and wellness, ultimately resulting in +Olive. A graduate of Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law, Ashley decided to put her entrepreneurial spirit to work in pursuing a life-long passion for design. Today, her successful endeavors include +Olive, +Olive HC and CUSP.

According to Yeates, "Two of my most memorable childhood realizations are that the world is a big yet reachable place and I can make it better. At school, I used to swing as high as possible on the West Texas playground, looking across the desert horizon, knowing I would go out into the world and make a difference. At home, I ran the pastures in my Wonder Woman outfit feeling capable of anything. After I opened the new AYI & Associates Design Studio inside +Olive, it only seemed appropriate to add a big office swing. Although I retired the super hero suit, I feel empowered when combining the beauty of nature with fabrics and fashion to create a lifestyle line capable of shifting the way we manufacture and consume to preserve and protect the planet."
