  • (1888PressRelease) January 08, 2011 - Millington TN - Unistar-Sparco Computers, Inc today announced their participation in the U.S. GreenGov Supply Chain Partnership and Small Business Pilot, a voluntary collaboration between the federal government and its suppliers to create a greener, more efficient supply chain. The program was announced at a supply chain summit in Chicago hosted by White House Council on Environmental Quality Chair Nancy Sutley and the General Services Administration's (GSA) Administrator Martha Johnson.

The GreenGov Supply Chain Partnership is a voluntary, GSA pilot program to promote clean energy and cut waste and pollution in the federal supply chain using greenhouse gas emissions as a measurement. "We agreed to voluntarily measure and report our organization's greenhouse gas emissions" said Soo-Tsong Lim, President of Unistar-Sparco. "We may be a small company, but we are making big strides to do our part to reduce energy consumption. We installed a solar panel array two years ago to help us reduce our energy footprint and we look forward to continuing our commitment to clean energy."

The GreenGov Supply Chain Partnership and Small Business Pilot Program were developed by GSA in response to President Obama's Executive Order 13514, which called on GSA to lead the effort to make recommendations for measuring and reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the federal supply chain. This partnership and pilot are an outcome of those recommendations, and represent an important collaboration with government and large and small businesses to move forward together toward a clean energy economy.

"The federal government is the single largest energy consumer in the U.S. economy and purchases more than $500 billion in goods and services every year," commented Chair Sutley. "It is our responsibility to lead by example to improve efficiency, eliminate waste, and promote clean energy in our supply chain."

Administrator Johnson added, "As one of the largest purchasers of goods and services in the world, GSA is in a unique position to collaborate with industry. Businesses across the globe are already realizing cost-saving, waste-reducing efficiencies and competitive advantages by decreasing greenhouse gas pollution. GSA will leverage these private-sector best practices and the GreenGov Supply Chain Partnership to move the federal government toward a cleaner, more efficient supply chain."
