  • (1888PressRelease) February 07, 2012 - Westminster Health Forum are to host an important seminal this summer bringing together senior officials from the British dental industry and the Office of Fair Trading. The seminar will address key issues such as dental training and CPD; the impact of dental pilots on quality of care; and implications of the new contracts on the industry and dental jobs. Dental recruitment and training agency Tempdent welcome the seminar as an important opportunity to discuss and highlight the importance of high quality dental training and CPD.

'Dentistry 2012 - Quality, Access And Regulation' will be chaired by Lord Colwyn and Baroness Gardner of Parkes, respectively vice chair and member of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Dentistry. Participants include Chief Dental Officer Barry Cockcroft, with senior officials from the British Dental Association (chair Susie Sanderson and Dr John Milne) and General Dental Council (Evlynne Gilvarry) plus Dr Nick Patsias (Federation of London Local Dental Committees) and Eric Rooney (NHS Central Lancashire). Held on July 12th 2012, important debates will take place on current key issues within the UK dental industry. For all dental practice staff, the seminar itself is CPD certified.

The timing of the conference follows on one year after the introduction of pilots for the new dental contracts. Representations will come from within the industry on their implications and impact on day to day practice and dental jobs. Further sessions aim to address future use of the contracts and the issue of commissioning within the industry. The Office of Fair Trading will also present their study into choice, access and competition within the industry. Began in September last year, the study aimed to establish how dentistry services are sold to the public; patient information, treatments offered and changing dentists; payment methods in the NHS and private sector; plus the issue of adequate patient redress in the event of problems. There will also be an examination of current dental regulation against the background of debate surrounding the role of the Care Quality Commission. This particular session will be open to questions around the shape of future regulation. Overall, the seminar unites professionals from a diverse range of organisations, all of whom have a tremendous influence on the current and future practice of British dentistry. Around the table will be not only dentist's representatives, but also senior policy makers from the Government, the regulatory bodies and consumer protection agency the Office of Fair Trading, plus many other interested parties.

"It's a tremendously important conference in terms of both the scope of participating agencies and topics.
