Tattle-Trail, Tampa Bay Innovation Center Client, Receives Patent for Monitoring System for Towed Vehicles
Tattle-Trail, a client of Tampa Bay Innovation Center, has been awarded a U.S. patent for a monitoring system for towed vehicles.
- Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater, FL (1888PressRelease) August 04, 2011 - Tattle-Trail, producer of a portable wireless towing monitor system designed to alert drivers to potential towing hazards, has been awarded a U.S. patent for its system to monitor towed vehicles for abnormal motion.
"Our research shows that more than 65,000 crashes involving noncommercial vehicles with towed vehicles occur each year, resulting in 400 deaths, 27,000 injuries and 46,000 property damage incidents," says Jim Aid, president of Tattle-Trail. "It's clear that monitoring your towed vehicle is extremely important, whether you are towing a camper, boat, car, horse trailer or other vehicle. Using our towing monitoring system will provide an early warning of problems resulting in reduced towing accidents, lower repair costs and fewer roadside strandings."
Aid adds that the Tattle-Trail towing monitoring system provides significantly broader capabilities than the more commonly used tire pressure monitors (TPMS) by detecting patterns of vibration and movement that may be caused by tire tread separation, flat tires, loose lug nuts, broken suspension components, malfunction of hitch assembly, runaway of the towed unit, death wobble, sway or other towing hazards.
"Tattle-Trail doesn't just monitor when the towed vehicle is in motion," Aid says. "It can also act as a theft preventer, detecting movement or impact in a parked towed vehicle. This allows owners to sleep soundly knowing that their towed vehicle is safe from theft or intrusion. Aid credits Tampa Bay Innovation Center (formerly STAR TEC) with his company's ability to bring Tattle-Trail to market and receive their patent. The company is also seeking additional licensing agreements with other manufacturers in the towing industry to integrate this proven new technology into other towing accessories.
