The CHALLENGE
Our clients George and Rolf created and held the patent for Light Film, an innovative automotive accessory that was featured on Shark Tank (S1, E115). On the show, the Sharks were impressed with the product and the potential profits behind licensing it to sports leagues so that fans can easily show their support.
George and Rolf asked for an investment of $100,000 to boost development, marketing and distribution - basically to take their product to the next level. Despite their cumulative background and experience in industrial design and finance, as well as $750,000 initial startup investment, the Sharks did not bite. It was revealed that the low confidence in LightFilm was due to its lack of manufacturing, licensing and distribution capabilities.
The SOLUTION
Undaunted, the duo approached Mark Richmond to find out what went wrong and how they can turn this around to be a more profitable venture. Using his close relationship with Shark Tank’s Daymond John as well as his extensive experience in manufacturing, Mark Richmond of MRCONNECTS.COM stepped in to assist. The first thing Mark did was to help George and Rolf secure a solid manufacturing channel which would enable them to manufacture LightFilm and scale the business to greater heights. Mark then went on to secure licensing arrangements with all major sports leagues and college teams. Having obtained official sports licensing from NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL greatly improved the business’ viability. The next crucial step was to set up a wide distribution network. Mark made George and Rolf master distributors, a move that fast-tracked their business feasibility.
The RESULTS
Now that manufacturing, licensing, and strong distribution channels have been set up for LightFilm, the deal got more lucrative. Using his connections, Mark persuaded Daymond to get Rolf and George back into Shark Tank (S2, E5). This time round, armed with a full suite of business capabilities, the duo were able to secure an investment of $100,000 and brought in a Shark, Daymond John, as business partners.
Under the helm of the dynamic duo plus their new business partners, LightFilm was rebranded as PowerDecal. Today, PowerDecal LLC Holdings is worth millions with products sold in BestBuy, WalMart and Amazon. This case study perfectly illustrates how Mark Richmond and MRCONNECTS.COM was being more than capable to turn a project around from basically being a dead deal, to elevating its status as a highly viable company, that has since then been able to grow and scale.
