Tamarind Of London's Bollywood-Themed Grand Opening Generates $7,000+ For James Beard Foundation

Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) December 21, 2011 - Costumed Bollywood dancers, henna tattoo artists, Dhol drummers, a red carpet entry and 700 guests set the stage for the grand opening of the OC's most exciting new restaurant, Tamarind of London. The long-awaited debut of the $3 million establishment hosted many of Newport Beach's jetset, members of the Crystal Cove Community Association, figures from Hollywood and Bollywood and supporters of the James Beard Foundation, announced General Manager Maneesh Rawat, who said that the restaurant will donate more than $7,000 to the foundation that is dedicated to celebrating, nurturing, and preserving America's diverse culinary heritage and future.

Guests, many dressed in saris and traditional Indian attire, dined on small bites prepared by Executive Chef Shachi Mehra with help from award-winning Alfred Prasad, executive chef of Tamarind's sister restaurant in London.

"We were overwhelmed by the enthusiastic response to our debut and delighted that so many guests got in the spirit of evening by dressing up and celebrating," said Rawat. "We take great pride in introducing Tamarind of London to the community while benefiting a most worthy organization, the James Beard Foundation."

Established in 1985, the James Beard Foundation offers a wide range of culinary programs including workshops, classes, conferences, readings, and other educational experiences that help people learn about and engage with food.

Sister to Tamarind restaurant in Great Britain, which has received a Michelin star for each of the past 12 years, Tamarind of London is situated in the chic Crystal Cove Promenade alongside such notable destinations as Mastro's Ocean Club and Javier's at 7862 East Coast Hwy, Newport Beach.
