  • Mobile, AL (1888PressRelease) February 01, 2011 - Mobile, Alabama and WildNative Inc. (www.wildnative.com) welcomed the arrival of the tall ship Peacemaker this afternoon to the Convention Center docks on Water Street. The tall ship will be in Mobile for two short stays, the first of which will end on February 10th. The ship will be back in town from Feb 24th to March 9th, staying long enough to enjoy Fat Tuesday festivities!

During the boat's stay, crew members will give free tours of the Peacemaker, whose interior is made of mahogany, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. This Friday evening (February 4th), the Peacemaker and WildNative will host a Tour of the boat and WineTasting from 7pm - 9pm. Visitors will learn what it's like to live on a ship, and the crew will demonstrate raising the main sail, which can take up to eight people.

The Peacemaker, which is 150-feet long and 108-feet tall, was built in southern Brazil by an Italian family. It was first launched in 1989 by Frank Walker, a Brazilian industrialist. Walker planned to travel with his family on the ship and then use it as a charter vessel in the Caribbean. In 2000, the boat was sold in Savannah, Ga., the Twelve Tribes, a confederation of religious communities. It took nine years to restore the boat. According to Lee, the 15-member crew is made up of several families, who share their resources and have been together for 40 years. The youngest member is 11 and the oldest is 55. The school-aged children are home-schooled, and the adults are usually involved in maintenance projects on the ship.

In addition to the Wine Tasting, WildNative will be hosting at least one VIP dinner aboard the ship in conjunction with the local culinary talents of Chef Rob.
