The Consumer Directed Service (CDS), formerly known as the Vendor Fiscal Intermediary option, is described by the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services (DADS) as a program that allows DADS consumers to hire and manage the persons who provide their services.
DADS consumers now have more control in their new role as employers. As an employer, they can set the wages, vacation days, and bonuses for their employees based on the allocated service budget. After the consumer agrees to partake in the CDS option, they are provided a list of agencies by their Case Worker. When the consumer chooses an agency like Tadstel & Associates, they become the fiscal agent for the consumer and handle all taxes and payroll obligations with the government. The agency also acts as a Certified Support Advisor to provide the consumers with the tools necessary to efficiently manage their budget, educate them, and provide them with a support network.
