  • Hartford, CT (1888PressRelease) March 24, 2025 - Widget's Workshop is the newest game in Phase Shift Games' "drop-style" line, available on BackerKit's crowdfunding platform until April 3, 2025. Widget's Workshop is part of BackerKit's Pocketopia program, focused on small-box, highly portable board and card games. The base game pledge is $15 USD, and higher tiers are also available that include deluxe neoprene mats and other games in Phase Shift's portfolio.

    Widget’s Workshop features an innovative blend of card crafting and set collection, within a spatial game environment. Players start by dropping 80 custom-shaped, semi-transparent part cards onto the table, creating a giant, messy pile of parts in the center. Players take turns pulling parts from the pile, using one finger only, attempting to find the best parts for their robots and golems under construction. The fact that many part cards are partially hidden in the rubble, or even flipped upside down, creates exciting deduction and push-your-luck moments. The player who completes the most optimized set of adorable constructs in their workshop wins.

    Game highlights:

    * Drop-style: “Drop-style” is the term Phase Shift Games uses to describe their award-winning line of games (including Dungeon Drop and Drop Drive) that utilize unique mechanisms involving dropping components on the table. These mechanisms are used not only as a quick way to randomize game setup, but also incorporated into the core gameplay.

    * Spatial set collection: Players will be collecting part cards with matching elements, archetypes, and makeups, drafting from the giant, messy pile that was dropped on the table. Players must use just one finger to pull a piece out from the pile by one of its corners - other parts of the pile may shift in the process, which is part of the fun of the game.

    * Card crafting: Once a player has acquired each of the 5 pieces required to build a new robot or golem (left arm, right arm, left leg, right leg, and head/torso), the part cards are combined to create a unique construct. The more attribute icons that match across the parts, the higher the score will be for that construct. There are over 1 million possible combinations possible, each with their own unique illustration and name.

    Game details:

    * Vitals: 2 to 5 players, ages 8+, 30 minutes to play
    * Designer: Alex Cutler (Critter Kitchen, A Place For All My Books, Expancity)
    * Pricing: $15 USD for the base game on BackerKit, with an anticipated $20 MSRP
