  • (1888PressRelease) February 09, 2012 - Similar to other films making up the series, March's presentation Carved from the Heart features the struggles and successes that communities go through and experience in order to revitalize their most precious neighborhoods. The revitalization process featured in the series includes everything ranging from murals to community activism to gardens.

After the screening, viewers will be able to enjoy a moderated discussion about potential activities that may be used to revitalize or, more specifically, further improve the quality of living in local communities in Syracuse. Carved from the Heart as well as other films that have been a part of this series has resulted from a careful selection process made by specially chosen members of the local residential community.

According to Syracuse NY realtors, Carved from the Heart is a poignantly constructed documentary directed and produced by Louise Brady and Ellen Frankenstein. It tackles the story of Stan Mardsen, a grieving woodcarver who had recently lost his son to a drug overdose. In an effort to cope with his grief, Marsden had decided to build a totem pole to preserve his son's memory. Eventually, the project had involved other locals of Craig, Alaska and had succeeded into uniting citizens of all ages and from all walks of life for one common goal.

The film also features interesting insights about the process of woodcarving on the side as well as stories shared by other locals who had participated in the Healing Heart Totem Pole project because of their own experiences with personal grief and tragedy.

This year's film series is taking place at the Art Rage Gallery, which was founded to provide the public with better access to the best artworks available and consider its objective as one of the more effective ways to achieve social and cultural change in society.

The "What If…" film series will commence at 5:30 p.m. and with screening of Carved from the Heart expected to end at around 7:30 p.m. The screening is open to the public with no admission charges and seats are available at a first-come, first-serve basis.
