SYNERGY HomeCare of Fairfield Observes National Parkinson's Awareness Month
SYNERGY HomeCare in Fairfield, CT proudly observes National Parkinson's Awareness Month.
- Stamford-Norwalk, CT (1888PressRelease) April 12, 2013 - April is National Parkinson's Awareness Month and SYNERGY HomeCare of Fairfield is pleased to join the effort to bring further public awareness to this debilitating disease that affects more people than multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy and Lou Gehrig's disease combined.
Parkinson's disease is a slowly progressive neurological disorder that affects the movement of muscles and limbs. The disease kills vital nerve cells in the brain that produce the chemical dopamine, which is crucial to movement and coordination. Parkinson's disease is one of the most common nervous system disorders of the elderly and the Center for Disease Control rated complications from the disease as the 14th leading cause of death in the United States.
"SYNERGY HomeCare of Fairfield is proud to recognize National Parkinson's Awareness Month and help broaden the understanding of the disease in CT," said Jay Kiley, Owner of SYNERGY HomeCare of Fairfield. "With no definitive cause or treatment, and symptoms that worsen over time, Parkinson's can be a daunting diagnosis. It is our goal, however, to provide quality care that helps to ease the impact of symptoms associated with the disease and ensure quality of life for our clients.
Nearly one million people in the United States are living with Parkinson's disease and SYNERGY HomeCare of Fairfield understands the impact it can have on a family. Since symptoms vary widely between each person affected by Parkinson's, SYNERGY HomeCare develops specialized care plans based on individual need and severity of symptoms in order to help clients cope with activities of daily living made more challenging.
For clients who are unable to control normal movement due to Parkinson's, caregivers can prepare nutritious meals, perform various household tasks, assist with personal hygiene/appearance and help with transfers from bed to wheelchair. SYNERGY HomeCare caregivers can also provide companionship care such as friendly and supportive conversation, light exercise and transportation to doctor's appointments to help clients cope with the complications associated with the disease, including thinking difficulties and depression/emotional changes.
