SWEBOK V3 Member Ballot Now Open
The IEEE Computer Society Professional Activities Board announced today that the ballot draft of Version 3 of the Guide to the Software Engineering Body of Knowledge (SWEBOK Guide V3) is now complete and posted for the approval of the IEEE CS membership at http://computer.centraldesktop.com/swebokv3review/.
- Cincinnati, OH-KY-IN (1888PressRelease) November 21, 2013 - The complete ballot draft is available for download on the ballot website, as is a report of all public review comments received and their resolutions. The ballot will close on Sunday 1 December 2013. All member numbers will be verified when counting the ballots, and only votes from current IEEE Computer Society members will be counted.
Following a positive ballot result and the approval of the IEEE Computer Society Board of Governors, the manuscript will be formatted for publication in .PDF and as a paperback book. Once published, the official .PDF will be available at computer.org, and the hard copy will be available via Amazon.com. In addition, SWEBOK Guide V3 will be submitted for recognition as ISO-IEC TR 19759-2014.
SWEBOK Guide V3 builds upon SWEBOK 2004 to refresh and add new reviewed content. An international team of Knowledge Area Editors produced or refreshed the content of each knowledge area. A team of overall editors directed the entire effort, and a Change Control Board approved all major requested changes. Executed under the auspices of the IEEE Computer Society Professional Activities Board, more than 1,500 changes were submitted and duly adjudicated.
The IEEE Computer Society's two software development certifications-the Certified Software Development Associate (CSDA) for entry-level developers and the Certified Software Development Professional (CSDP) credential for mid-career professionals are both based on the SWEBOK Guide. The CSDA and the CSDP are the first two certifications that conform to the ISO/IEC 24773 standard, which stipulates methods of certifying software engineering professionals worldwide.
Most IEEE Computer Society training materials and curriculum development also use the SWEBOK Guide as a foundation.
