Swarovski's Design Competition for Central St Martins
Swarovski Set a Design challenge for Central St Martin's students, the winning pieces of which are currently on display at the college.
- (1888PressRelease) May 15, 2012 - Swarovski Set a Design challenge for Central St Martin's students, to celebrate their 10-year relationship with the college.
Swarovski, favourite brand at the Jewel Hut, encouraged first year students to push the boundaries of design, using sparkling Swarovski gems.
The students were divided into four groups and given themes - Berlin, Istanbul, Fiction and Luminescence. They created mood boards, sketchbooks and a final piece which they presented to Nadja Swarovski, jewellery designer Hannah Martin and digital editor at Grazia Jessica Vince.
What has impressed the judges the most is the creativity and innovation displayed in the pieces, as well as their sheer wearability. The quality of craftsmanship displayed in the 45 entries made it an extremely difficult decision, but the first prize went to Nadezhda Fedotova for her interpretation of 'fiction'.
The amazing selection of creative entries were as varied as a neckpiece that wraps around the wearer like the tendrils of smoke from Turkish harems, made of feathers and brass, to a grit, concrete and resin mix, representing the Berlin wall.
The stunning winning bracelet is inspired by ceremonial African masks, a bracelet with magnetic elements and hidden faces set with Swarovski gemstones, fashioned in brass and carved wood.
The eight winning pieces will go on display at Central St Martins from Monday 14th May to Friday 18th May.
This is the latest collaboration in the ten year relationship between Swarovski and Central Saint Martins, who have recently announced a sponsorship scheme with the college, and donated a piece of state of the art equipment for the use of Jewellery students at the new £200m King's Cross site.
The Jewel Hut is an authorised UK stockist of Swarovski and many other leading jewellery brands including Pandora, Links of London, Thomas Sabo and Hot Diamonds.
