Excerpt from the Book:
"Tom Sheppard found himself once again face down on the ground. He wasn't sure how long he had been out. What he was certain of was the pain he was feeling in every part of his body. He lifted his head slightly and licked his lips, tasting the blood that was dripping from a cut. He tried to spit out the sour liquid mixed in with his spittle but ended up blowing dust from the ground into his face. Drawing a deep breath and trying not to suck up any more dirt, Tom slowly pulled his arms in and with palms facing forward on the ground, he pushed himself up. His first attempt left him falling flat on his face. He decided to wait before inflicting any more injury to an already battered face. He could hear the sound of ringing in his left ear and wondered if he had sustained any damage to his hearing on his last fall to the ground.

Just before he had blacked out, he had the memory of a boot coming towards his head. Tom, even in pain, had the humour to think that the guy should get a new pair due to wear and tear. There seemed to be a lull in the violence that was directed at Tom which allowed him to regain some focus in his thinking. He could hear several voices nearby and decided to take a chance and open his eyes. He found he was unable to see through his right one as it was swollen shut from a previous punch to the head when he had ended up on one of his many journeys to the ground. The men who were attacking him had waited until he had regained his footing before carrying the barrage of attacks, each time with Tom ending up face down on the ground."
