Sunshine to host Cresa Giant Slalom race

  • (1888PressRelease) April 11, 2013 - Sunshine Village Ski and Snowboard Resort will showcase up-and-coming alpine athletes during the Cresa U16 Giant Slalom April 13th and 14th.

    The two-day event, co-hosted by the Sunshine Alpine Racers and Mt. Norquay's Banff Alpine Racers takes place throughout the weekend at both resorts.

    Races at Sunshine Village will take place on the Scapegoat ski run off of the resort's Goat's Eye Chairlift. The men's U16 races will occur on Saturday, April 13th at 10 a.m. and the women's U16 races will take place on Sunday, April 14th at 10 a.m.

    Up to 200 young athletes from 14 years to 16 years of age will compete for top prize in the province. An awards ceremony will follow the final race at the bottom of the Goat's Eye Chairlift.

    The Sunshine Ski Club was founded in 1971 with the Sunshine Nancy Greene program starting in 1983 by well-known local ski coach Claudio Berto. A number of the Sunshine Ski Club's ski racers have went on to the national team including: Blais Mullen, Cary Mullen, Darren Thorburn, Karen Percy, Shona Rubens and current CAST Member Andy Trow.
