Summit In Qatar To Discuss Best Practices To Arrest Corrosion

- (1888PressRelease) February 21, 2014 - Corrosion is one of the major reasons for operational breakdown across numerous industries like oil, gas, manufacturing and construction. The expense for maintenance and repairs runs into billions of dollars per year. Sinopec recently suffered a lot of economic loss due to leakage of oil caused in one of its pipeline due to corrosion. The leaked oil then traveled to the sea creating environmental hazards according to an article published on Bloomberg website. Preventive and precautionary measures hold the key to averting such breakdowns and disasters. The 3rd Annual Corrosion Management Summit to be organized by Fleming Gulf will be held from 28 - 30 April 2014 in Doha, Qatar and will gather corrosion experts from in and around the region to discuss the best and latest anti - corrosion practices.
Now into its third edition, the summit this year will see participants from organizations like Saudi Aramco, Qatar Gas, Petro Rabigh, ExxonMobil, PETRONAS and GUPCO-BP to name a few. The three day summit will have two pre - summit workshops on mitigation of internal corrosion in oil effluent pipeline systems and using non-conventional protection techniques for corrosion under insulation (CUI). Last two days of the summit will see eminent speakers present on topics like fighting microbial induced corrosion (MIC) in oil & gas pipelines, understanding non-destructive testing for corrosion evaluation, cost effective mitigation of atmospheric corrosion in offshore & onshore installations and optimizing the application of corrosion modeling in material selection.
Anticorrosion Protective Systems - APS, provider of engineering, application and installation of specialized protective systems to the oil, gas, power and utility sectors is the silver sponsor at the summit. The Society for Protective Coatings - SSPC, a non-profit professional society founded in 1950, is supporting the summit. Previously known as the Steel Structures Painting Council, SSPC is focused on the protection and preservation of structures through the use of high-performance coatings. The forum aims to create an avenue to exchange view points concerning the future and simultaneously aim to benefit from the experience of other countries.
