Sudvinbio Raises A Glass To Successful 2014 Organic-wine Event
Sudvinbio, the organizer of the Millésime Bio 2014 trade show, has described this year's event as an outstanding success, with over 4,200 visitors. Millésime Bio 2014 was held from 27 to 29 January 2014, in Montpellier (France). Thanks to an array of conferences and wine-tasting events, it represents a unique professional forum for the organic-wine market and the trade.
- (1888PressRelease) March 19, 2014 - Sudvinbio, the organizer of Millésime Bio, one of the foremost international events in organic winegrowing, has described this year's event as an outstanding success, thanks to the record number of visitors. Indeed, visitor numbers increased year on year (from 4,160 in 2013 to over 4,240 in 2014), with 20% of visitors coming from outside France.
Visitors to the trade show represented a total of 20 nationalities. The majority of visitors came from the Benelux countries (19.60%), followed by Scandinavia (15.60%), Germany (14%), North America (11%) and, finally, Asia (6.80%).
Exhibitor numbers also rose - from 689 in 2013 to 787 in 2014 - with France, Italy and Spain the most represented countries. However, attendance from a number of other nations was also strong, with winegrowers based in countries such as Germany, Portugal and, for the first time, Slovenia, exhibiting at the trade fair.
Millésime Bio was held at the Exhibition Centre, in the city of Montpellier (Southern France), from 27 to 29 January of this year. Millésime Bio is a unique concept that brings together organic wines from a variety of French regions and from many countries outside France.
The trade show provides an important platform for dialogue and exploration through conferences, and the increase in visitor/exhibitor numbers at this year's event is confirmation that Millésime Bio has become established as the trade event of reference for the organic-wine sector.
The organic-wine market is steadily increasing in overall importance, with a 6% rise in the size of the land area given over to organic-wine production in France between 2011 and 2012. Over a four-year period, the surface area devoted to organic winegrowing in France has almost tripled. The three leading French regions are Languedoc-Roussillon (51,385 acres, up 4% in one year), Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur (36,781 acres, up 8%), and Aquitaine (24,097 acres, up 3%). Worldwide, France is in second place - behind Spain and ahead of Italy - in terms of the size of its organic-winegrowing sector.
According to a consumer survey carried out in France in 2013 by French market-research company IPSOS, one in three people polled indicated regularly or occasionally drinking organic wine. The industry turnover in 2012 stood at €413 million overall (up 15%, year on year). Export sales - to countries such as Germany, Japan and the USA, among others - have risen and, at €58 million in value, now represent 19% of the turnover of the organic-food-and-drink sector.
The prime distribution channel for organic wine is direct sales (36%), followed by retail outlets specializing in organic products (27%), mass-retail food stores (19%) and, finally, small shops (17%).
