Stumps Prom & Party announced the top three winners in their 3rd Annual Proms Across America Contest. Two NY schools and one TX school take $5000 each.
- (1888PressRelease) March 19, 2011 - Stumps Prom & Party announced the top three winners in their 3rd Annual Proms Across America Contest. Students, teachers, parents and staff from schools across the United States spent the past three months voting online for the chance to win their share of $100,000 in prizes for their prom.
The three schools with the most votes are Alief Taylor High School from Houston, Texas, Edwards-Knox High School from Russell, New York and Downsville Central School from Downsville, New York. All three will receive a $5,000 Stumps Gift Certificate, DJ Expenses, and Royalty items for their Prom Court.
This is the second year in a row that Alief Taylor has won the grand prize. Alief Taylor's prom advisor, Kimberly Schultz, says the school's victory was a team effort. Schultz states, "During three days of state testing when our Class of 2011 did not have to test, our seniors sat in the computer labs and voted over and over again. The underclassmen also helped out when we had two after school pizza voting parties where we picked up 4,000 votes in only one hour of voting each time. During the last week of voting, our seniors gave up hours of their own spring break and kept voting! We're ecstatic to have Stumps attending our prom again! It will be bigger and better than last year. The Seniors can't wait to be featured in next year's Stumps website and catalogs!"
Beginning in January, thousands of schools entered the Proms across America contest. Students were allowed to vote for their school as often as they wanted for a chance to win. Many students encouraged their community to get involved in the voting. Almost 5 million votes were cast. The top three schools tallied an overwhelming 468,551 combined votes.
Prom Advisor Stephanie Stone from Edwards-Knox says, "The Juniors at Edwards-Knox are extremely excited about winning the top three! The voting marathon on Saturday, March 12, and the five hour voting nights the following Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights really paid off. We have many students, teachers, administrators, community members, and family members to thank. Without their support none of this would be possible. Congratulations to all of the other winners and thank you, Stumps!"
In addition, 50 runner-up schools, one from each state, received $1,000 Stumps Gift Certificates. Over the course of the contest, Stumps awarded 452 voting level prizes including personalized school banners and candy bars for fundraising, reusable prom and graduation decorations, and royalty crowns, tiaras and sashes.
