Student from School for Troubled Youth Wins Big at the Utah High School Art Competition

Salt Lake City-Ogden, UT (1888PressRelease) July 16, 2014 - Emily Fleck proudly took home the Congressional Award for her academy at this year's Utah Stat High School Art Competition. Fleck was one of 300 students selected from thousands of applicants to display their work in the 2014 show. Out of the select 300, Fleck was once again chosen for a higher honor, earning the Congressional Award for her work.

Fleck attended the award ceremony held at the Utah State Capitol building in June. She and her family will also receive an all-expense paid trip to Washington D.C. where she will once again be awarded for her work "Color My World." The piece has also earned a spot hanging in the Utah State Capitol for a year.

This was one of two big wins for the academy at this year's competition. Hawa Zabel, a recent Diamond Ranch Academy graduate, also won the Congressional Award for her home state. She will also be on her way to Washington to receive her state's award alongside Fleck.

The nationwide Congressional Art Competition is held each spring and is sponsored by the U.S. House of Representatives. The competition began in 1982 as an opportunity for young artists to showcase their talents on a national stage. Over 650,000 high school students have been involved with the nationwide competition since its inception.
