Surgical technologists are critical members of a surgical team and assist doctors and other surgical staff during operations. The duties of a surgical technologist range from preparing the operating room and assembling and sterilizing surgical tools to anticipating the needs of the surgical team during surgery and providing them with the appropriate instruments.
The AOS in Surgical Technologist at Stevens-Henager College trains graduates to undertake these responsibilities by providing them relevant education through both theoretical coursework and clinical externships. As part of their degree program, students take courses in anatomy and physiology, microbiology, surgical instrumentation and supplies, systematic surgical procedures, surgical suite operations, and more.
In addition to a high school diploma or GEDŽ certificate, the eligibility criteria for admission to this program include a score of 21 or higher on the SLE examination and at least 70% on the surgical entrance examination. Students must also go through a physical exam and provide proof of satisfactory results within 30 days of starting classes.
The degree, which can be completed in 20 months, is available at Stevens-Henager Salt Lake/Murray, Ogden/West Haven and Layton campuses.
