The college has added a Nurse Case Manager emphasis to its Bachelor of Science in Nursing Administration degree. Since the degree has been designed as a completion program, it is available only to practicing registered nurses.
Nurse case managers are responsible for coordinating and managing all aspects of healthcare for patients who need extended or long-term therapy.
Some of their duties include communicating with primary healthcare providers and insurance companies; coordinating the treatment plan; ensuring the patient receives the most appropriate and effective treatment; and educating the family members of the patient about the disease, the required treatment, and the rehabilitation process thereafter.
The program, which is spread over 20 months, includes courses such as Case Management, Home Healthcare, Health Assessment, Psychological Aspects of Illness and Disability, Nursing Informatics, Managed Healthcare, etc. However, the program does not require completion of any clinical hours.
In addition to the nurse case manager role, this Bachelor of Science in Nursing Administration degree prepares graduates for a variety of supervisory positions, including that of a health services and nurse manager.
The program can be pursued online or at the Ogden/West Haven campus of Stevens-Henager College, as well as its satellite in Layton.
The eligibility criteria for this nursing administration degree include a high school diploma or an equivalent GEDŽ credential and a valid RN license. Additionally, applicants must have completed an appropriate number of college and general education credit hours before they can be enrolled in this program.
