Steve Smyers Masterful Renovation Plays Host to this Week's 63rd U.S. Girl's Junior Championship
The layout now features restructured bunkers, reconfigured teeing grounds and restored greens to historical shapes and strategy.
- Lakeland-Winter Haven, FL (1888PressRelease) July 20, 2011 - An original Tom Bendelow design, Olympia Fields South Course is host to this week's 63rd US Girls' Junior Championship.
The course recently underwent a renovation and was restored to its original style and strategy in 2008 by Steve Smyers. According to Crain's Chicago Business Golf Writer H. Lee Murphy, the restored South Course is "a monstrously tough challenge that remains true to its origins, ranks as one of the finest course makeovers around Chicago in recent years". Olympia Fields (South Course) was the site of the 2010 Illinois Section PGA Championship and this year's USGA Girls' Junior Championship, and will be host to the 2012 Junior Ryder Cup, 2013 Western Amateur, and the 2015 US Amateur Championship.
