Information on Mark's Ranch: Located less than 4 miles from the heart of Salinas stands Mark's Ranch, an 816-acre landscape straight from the pages of a Steinbeck novel, where majestic sycamore trees, wildflower-filled meadows, dense grasslands and oak tree-dotted hillsides blend into the northern slopes of the Sierra de Salinas mountain range. The property was originally settled by Salinas Valley pioneers Benjamin and Nisene Marks, who in 1890 purchased the 2000-acre Rancho El Toro that included the tract known today as Mark's Ranch. The Big Sur Land Trust, a Monterey County-based non-profit organization whose mission is to inspire love of the land and conservation of our treasured landscapes, acquired Mark's Ranch in 2007.
