Stefano Torrese And Diego Antolini Speak About The Film Industry
Director Stefano Torrese (Milano, 32) and actor Diego Antolini (Perugia, 29) did an exclusive interview speaking about the differences between the Italian and the American film industry.
- (1888PressRelease) December 14, 2010 - Torrese focused upon the ability of the Americans to wrap up products - sometimes taken straight from Italian talents - which are immediate worldwide blasts, whereas the same products in Italy would rest in a producer's drawer because of the scarce interested in investing into new projects, and because of the low level of many Italian film schools
On the other hand, as Torrese remarks, the main goal of every Italian filmaker should be that of taking back that part of the market which belonged to Italy in the Neorealism. The young director likes to work in the US, but he takes this as a professional passage to build up a complete portfolio, and then come back to Italy and give the audience that quality which can bring the country back to the successes of the '50s
Diego Antolini speaks about the quality of the American actors compared to the preparation of their Italian counterparts. His comments are objective - He studied in the U.S. but also had experiences in Italy - when he says that producers and directors overseas are way more demanding and strict than the Italians.
An American actor must constantly work hard to succeed, because the competition is extreme. This does not happen in Italy, where the expectations from the Audience towards Cinema and TV, are not so high, and because of the system of "favors" and "connections" that unfortunately seem to be the only way for an actor to reach popularity.
Antolini doubts that simply going abroad can solve the problems of the Italian film industry, although from an individual perspective, learning to perform in an international language such as English, can offer many more opportunities to the actor.
Italy has a lot of talents, people who should be proud to work into and for their own country; Actors don't have to work with themselves only, but also a great deal of effort must be employed into Public Relations and Networking within the showbusiness industry.
