- (1888PressRelease) December 01, 2010 - Steelhenge, leading providers of crisis management consulting, training and exercising, has been appointed as training and exercise partner by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) in a four year programme supporting food and feed safety crisis preparedness. "We're proud to announce our partnership with the European Food Safety Authority," said Isobel Nicholas, Director of Communications for Steelhenge. "We've worked with a number of global food manufacturers and the Food Standards Agency in the UK, providing support in crisis and incident management training and exercising. Consequently, we look forward to bringing this experience to our work with EFSA for the benefit of consumers across Europe."
"EFSA works with the European Commission, European Parliament and national food safety authorities in all member states, providing risk assessment and scientific advice on existing and emerging risks regarding food and animal feed safety," Isobel explained. "Whilst EFSA already has plans in place regarding their role in a crisis, they want to undertake training and a programme of exercises to ensure they are always fully prepared to respond to a request for urgent advice and able to be proactive as a food safety incident arises. The aim of the programme is to prepare them to be able to respond quickly and effectively to a potential crisis requiring objective and independent science-based advice at the issue stage, and get advice out to all member states before it reaches food safety incident status. It's heartening to see such a critical authority being so proactive," Isobel added, "And we are looking forward to providing the next four years of crisis preparedness training."
