Star Ushers In 2013 In Style With Lagos Crossover Concert
With more than 15 performances from some of the biggest artistes in the country, the Lagos Crossover Concert was staged at the Eko Atlantic City on the eve of the New Year, bringing 2012 to a spectacular end and ushering in 2013 in grand style.
- (1888PressRelease) January 08, 2013 - Arguably the biggest concert of its kind in Nigeria, the first ever Lagos Crossover Concert, organized by the Lagos State Signage and Advertising Agency (LASAA), and sponsored by premium lager beer, Star, certainly lived up to its billing.
The event featured some of Nigeria's biggest artistes, including Tuface Idibia, Iyanya, Olamide, Davido, Banky W, Tiwa Sawage , Omawunmi, D'Prince , MI, Brymo, Dare and W4. There were also scintillating performances from other artistes, including the 2012 winners of Star Quest, Crystals, Kel, Solid Star, DRB, Tunde Ednut, Orezi, Omo Akin, Pheel, Reminiscence, Eva, Flow Sick amongst others. The event had the trio of I.k of the Big Brother Africa fame, Quest and Oreyi Keyo as anchors.
The Lagos Crossover Concert was the climax of 10 days of celebration at the Star Mega City, located at the Eko Atlantic City, which saw upcoming music acts and comedians thrilling fun seekers with their dose of entertainment from day to day. On the last day, December 31, a crop of Nigeria's best artistes took to the stage to entertain the audience and the venue erupted with excitement.
The fun seekers didn't seem to mind the fact that the entire stretch of Ahmadu Way in Victoria Island, normally a beehive of vehicular traffic, was condoned off to all vehicles. As early as 7pm, a large crowd had already gathered at the event ground, just to catch their share of fun as the last hours of 2012 gradually faded away.
The event turned out to be a roll call of the biggest Nigerian music acts of 2012, as the stars treated the revelers to their hit songs. However, the night belonged to Tuface Idibia. The Benue State-born artiste certainly cemented his reputation as Nigeria's biggest contemporary artiste. He took the audience through some of his old tracks like African Queen as well as the more recent hits like Ihe ne me. The crowd simply couldn't get enough of him as, all too soon, Tu Baba, as he is fondly called, left the stage to a rousing applause.
Rapper, Olamide, also gave a wonderful performance on stage. Though Olamide could only manage three songs during his time on stage, but it was certainly enough to get the audience out of their seats. The other performers also gave a good account of themselves.
However, the high point of the day was the fireworks display that heralded the New Year. It was certainly a spectacle to behold as the night was lit up by the brightness of the brilliant display.
Speaking on the event, the Corporate Adviser of Nigeria Breweries, Mr. Yusuf Ageni, described the Lagos Crossover Concert as one of the memorable moments of 2012 as well as 2013. "What we have is surely one of the memorable moments of 2012 and 2013. We believe so much in Lagos and Nigeria, and that was why we decided to throw our full weight behind Lagos State and LASAA when they came up with this idea," he stated.
According to Ageni, the partnership was a worthy venture that is sure to put Lagos State on the global map. "Everybody knows Star as a brand that advocates fun and friendship. That is what this concert is all about. We are truly grateful to the Lagos State government and LASAA for this wonderful opportunity, and I know that, after today, this concert will put Lagos on the global map," he noted.
