- Dallas, TX (1888PressRelease) September 12, 2014 - Mike Henricks & Melody Brooke are taking on their first feature film this fall and have secured Manu Intiraymi as their romantic lead. Manu responded to an email Melody sent out to the LA Table (a support network of filmmakers in the Los Angeles area). Melody sent him the script and he fell in love with the screenplay, and the character of Zach. Then, completely unsolicited from the Promises team, Emmy Award Winner Grace Johnson asked to be a part of the film. She, like Zach felt the film was so compelling she just wanted to be apart of it.
Promises is a romantic comedy that starts with Sara and Joe as latchkey kids and friends in a difficult neighborhood. Joe moves away and they both change their nicknames to escape their past. Of course, events toss them together and their old friendship somehow pulls them through a rocky romance. After much strife, they learn each other's real identities. Love provides the context that slowly reframes their abusive pasts to set them free to live and love but not without a few bruises and laughter along the way.
The film, to be shot entirely in Texas, was written by Melody Brooke and Mike Henricks. They are cowriters of most every film they produce. "Its not as difficult as you might think," says Melody, "We go back and forth about some things, but because we share the same vision, writing seems to flow very naturally together for us." She says she and Mike will write separate pieces of the script, then go back over each others work and make changes, but sometimes, it works differently. "Over one portion of Promises, we just were not happy with how either of us were writing the scene. So we started writing it one line at a time, handing the laptop back and forth between us until it was complete". The result is a powerful film that moves audiences and engages actors.
"Actors love our characters", says Mike Henricks, "They provide depth and range of expressive emotions that they rarely get a chance to perform". Casting calls are currently going out for supporting roles.
They are looking for a diverse cast. "We are dedicated to producing films that reflect our wider society and not the bland single color type films we so often see." You can be a part of it by donating to the Indiegogo campaign at: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/promises-feature-film/x/253078.
