The Inaugural Gala recognized Outstanding Individuals; Large and Small Businesses.
- San Diego, CA (1888PressRelease) March 22, 2011 - St. Madeleine Sophie's Center, a non-denominational program helping adults with developmental disabilities, was awarded "Nonprofit of the Year" at the San Diego East County Chamber of Commerce Gala 2011 on February 25th.
This was the first year that The Chamber chose to recognize a local nonprofit at the gala. Nominations for the award were elicited from the entire Chamber membership with special consideration given to those nonprofits with strong community involvement.
The planning committee narrowed the nominations down to three finalists; with the Board of Directors selecting the final winner: St. Madeleine Sophie's Center.
"We were thrilled to hear that The Chamber chose to recognize local nonprofits in East County; displaying the positive impact they have throughout the community," said Karen Amoroso, Director of Development and Communications for St. Madeleine Sophie's Center. "We were honored to be nominated in this category, but to win exceeds all of our expectations. We hope this award will bring about more awareness to our nonprofit."
The two other finalists nominated for the award, were Home of Guiding Hands and The Boys and Girls Club of East County.
350 members and guests of the San Diego East County Chamber of Commerce gathered at the Crystal Ballroom in El Cajon for, what is billed as, "East County's most elegant evening."
Celebrating its 100th year serving the business community and residents of East County, The Chamber hosts the annual gala to feature and recognize many of its outstanding community leaders.
