The date is set for the 11th annual St. Augustine Amateur and registration is open and already players are flocking to take advantage of play.
- Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater, FL (1888PressRelease) September 12, 2014 - The St. Augustine Amateur takes place October 10-12, 2014 at the St. Johns Golf Club in Elkton, Florida. The event is a 54-hole stroke play, walking only competition for better amateur and collegiate players.
Wes Tucker, head golf pro at St. Johns Golf Club, encourages early registration. "The 78-player field is already filling up. We are excited by the influx of early registrants and the buzz being created about this year's St. Augustine Amateur." It is expected the field will once again feature not only players from the Southeast, but also international players. According to Tucker, "Players like the St. Augustine Amateur because it's a challenging way to wrap up their season. The temperate climate and excellent conditions make the St. Augustine Amateur popular among the golfers. And you can't beat the hospitality St. Augustine extends to the players and their families."
The St. Augustine Amateur has a rich history of showcasing rising golf stars. "The great thing about the tournament is that you get to see the future of competitive golf, up close and personal. Because the players walk the course there is an opportunity for not only following your favorite player but also enjoying the beauty and serenity of the course," states Tucker.
The winner of the tournament will receive the John C. Jennison III Trophy as well as Golfweek/amateurGolf.com World Amateur Golf Ranking Points. The trophy is named for a former executive director of The First Tee of St. Johns County and a founder of the St. Augustine Amateur event.
