  • West Palm Beach-Boca Raton, FL (1888PressRelease) April 08, 2015 - Spirit of Giving-a collaborative, nonprofit organization with a focus on children and families in Palm Beach County-announces that it has appointed its 2015-2016 board of directors: Nori Carter, Linda Gunn Paton, Jennifer Nawrocki, Doug Paton, Devin Radkay, Corrine Rea and Susan Whelchel. The board oversees by-law creation, fundraising as well as planning for all SOG signature events such as the Back to School Bash, Holiday Gift Drive and ESPN Boca Raton Bowl.

"This year's board is truly a dream team of highly skilled and experienced individuals, known as real influencers in the community," says President Doug Paton. "Above all, they have a passion for philanthropy, and I know their hard work and commitment will make this a banner year for Spirit of Giving and our member nonprofits."

Nori Carter, director of Florida Atlantic University's Weppner Center for Service-Learning & Civic Responsibility, says that she appreciates the model created by SOG: "Such a collective, connective and collaborative framework to strengthen a community is exciting!" She seeks to continuously move forward the purpose and share in the vision of SOG for it to become a model to be emulated in other communities inside and outside of Florida. Specifically, as a board member, Carter is committed to creating a nonprofit membership base and framework that supports SOG in its goal of collaboration for the betterment of the community.

Linda Gunn Paton is in senior-level management at the eyewear company Luxottica. She is excited about the fact that SOG makes "a big-scale difference in the community" and will work to ensure that all SOG processes and procedures are in place and that all SOG publications are aligned with the organization's identity. She also wants to make sure that SOG does not duplicate efforts. "I want to make sure people understand who SOG is and what SOG does," she Gunn Paton.

Jennifer Nawrocki, an admissions advisor for Kaplan University, is passionate about SOG's unique mission of encouraging collaboration amongst neighboring nonprofits. Excited that there is a movement to create positive change within the community, Nawrocki seeks "to help in SOG's overall growth and effective application of its mission," as well as "to be a part of the goal to franchise SOG to benefit communities throughout the world," she says. Her focus will be working with SOG's agency of record, The Gab Group, in creating an "infectious SOG brand."

A partner of Flagship Solutions Group, Doug Paton hopes to eliminate duplication of services through collaboration and empower nonprofits by sharing knowledge. He aims to help member nonprofits run more efficiently as businesses, in part by standardizing best practices, policies and procedures, accountability and responsibility-including for SOG. In short, he hopes to leave behind "a better-run organization," he says.

Devin Radkay is an attorney at Gunster Law Firm who looks forward to giving back to the community that "raised me and made me who I am," he says, and which is "starting to grow with all the things that truly make something a 'community'-a sense of interwoven-ness, developing and diversified economy, culture, arts, services to those in need, etc." He is excited by the enormous impact SOG can have on the community by creating synergies among its member organizations.

Corrine Rea is a certified educator with the state of Florida. A former elementary school teacher, she looks forward to helping SOG's network of nonprofits grow stronger and learn to help each other even further. Specifically, she is taking on the role of board representative for the gift drive, which she would like to see run more efficiently. "I love to see multiple agencies working together for the benefit of an individual or family," Rea says. "People so rarely need just one thing or one area of help. Our network allows agencies to work together to provide help outside their main purview to the benefit of those in need."

The former mayor of the City of Boca Raton, Susan Whelchel works with Whelchel Partners, a commercial real estate company in Boca Raton. Enthused by SOG's work in the community and ability to reach so many people, Whelchel is a founding member of SOG and served as a city commissioner for the past 14 years. By serving on the board, she hopes to bring new ideas and opportunities to the organization as well as create funding opportunities necessary to meet yearly goals.
