Speed Dating Debuts in the Capital Region; New Service for Singles Launches on Valentines Day
New service, "5 Minute Mingle" offers area singles a unique alternative to online dating and match-making services with speed dating events and singles' group events. Launch party set for Valentine's Day in Saratoga Springs, public welcome.

The service hopes to bring the popular method of "speed dating" to the region and plans to host other events, activities and group excursions that encourage singles to meet other singles, face-to-face.
Unlike online dating or matchmaking services, 5 Minute Mingle's speed dating events are designed to allow individual face-to-face communication with a large number of people in a short amount of time and are ideal for professionals and busy parents. The service plans to launch their first organized Speed Dating Events in March of this year and says that they will host these events in the Albany, Saratoga and Glens Falls areas.
A speed dating event will consist of an introductory period of time where people can mingle but then organizes 8-12 one-on-one "mini-dates" that last 5 minutes in order for individuals to gauge if there is a connection. 5 Minute Mingle maintains a safe environment by only exchanging contact information if both parties on the mini-date have mutually written down each other's assigned id number at the end of the event, indicating that they are interested in sharing their contact information with one another.
"Throughout my career, I spent a lot of time traveling and noticed the popularity of the 'speed-dating-scene' in other metropolitan areas throughout the US", says originator and co-founder Wyatt Edwards, himself a single parent. "There is a specific market that this type of service appeals to and that is, busy single people who want to meet someone but who are still uncomfortable with the impersonal and mechanical nature of online dating and who also do not want to be "paired up" by a traditional matchmaking-style service. My goal was to bring the speed dating alternative to the Capital Region because I saw a need for it here".
A public Launch Party will be held on Valentine's Day, February 14th at The Paddock Lounge on Caroline Street in Saratoga Springs from 6:00 - 10:00 PM to introduce the service to the area. This date was auspiciously set to give those "without Valentines" an evening of fun on a night when they might not otherwise have plans. However, the company encourages all to attend and says that the party is not only for singles looking to meet other singles but also for those in committed relationships who may want to learn more about 5 Minute Mingle so that they can recommend the service to their single friends or family members. The launch party is free to attend but will offer a cash bar with drink specials. There will also be prizes, give-aways from area businesses and coupons for 50% off a future speed dating event to use for yourself or to give to a friend.
In addition to speed dating events, the company plans to launch a series of Group Excursions and other activities for singles. "We hope to give area singles not only the option to spend 5 minutes face-to-face with a lot of different people to see if there's a match during our speed dating events but also to plan a bunch of fun events and activities for groups of singles to attend that will allow people to spend longer periods of time together".
