Spectrum Building Systems, Inc. to Sponsor 2012 Georgia Charter Schools Conference
Record breaking attendance expected at 10th annual gathering in Atlanta, GA.
- (1888PressRelease) October 03, 2012 - Spectrum Building Systems, Inc. will be among more than 50 sponsors of the 2012 Georgia Charter Schools Association (GCSA) Conference, October 4-5 at the Georgia World Congress Center, Building B, Atlanta, GA. The 10th Annual Conference, Charting the Path to Success, is the largest annual gathering of the charter school community in Georgia.
This year's GCSA Charter Schools Conference comes just 30 days before a critical vote on a constitutional amendment in Georgia supporting the growth of public charter schools. Interest in the amendment and the future of public charter schools in Georgia is at an all-time high, making the 2012 GCSA Charter Schools Conference an even more timely and pivotal event. Extensive media coverage of the Conference is expected.
Opening the Conference on Thursday, October 4th will be a keynote address by former Minnesota State Senator Ember Reichgott Junge, who authored Minnesota's 1991 first-in-nation charter school law. The 18-year legislator served as Senate Assistant Majority Leader before stepping down from senate service in 2000. In honor of the 20th anniversary of the passage of the first charter legislation, Reichgott Junge wrote a history of the origins of the charter school movement entitled: Zero Chance of Passage: The Pioneering Charter School Story.
Sen. Reichgott Junge is a national spokesperson on charter public schools, including appearances with Bill Clinton, Vice President Al Gore, and U.S. Education Secretaries Richard Riley and Lamar Alexander. In 1988, Sen. Reichgott Junge also sponsored into law the first open enrollment initiative for public schools in the nation, allowing students to attend public charter schools of choice anywhere in Minnesota. She has continued her involvement with public charter schools as a board member of the Washington, D.C. based National Alliance for Public Charter Schools and the Washington D.C. based Charter Schools Development Corporation (CSDC). She was inducted into the National Charter Schools Hall of Fame in April, 2008.
"We are proud to be a sponsor of this 10th annual Conference, and we support the expansion of high quality charter schools in Georgia," said Casey Alexander, Marketing Manager for Spectrum Building Systems, Inc. "Public charter schools offer parents and families better options in public education and the opportunity to choose a school that fits their child's needs best."
