SPARKcon Returns To Downtown Raleigh For 8th Annual Showcase
Local Festival Promotes Creativity And Collaboration.
- Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC (1888PressRelease) August 29, 2013 - SPARKcon, an annual showcase of creativity and talent designed to celebrate the cultural momentum of the Triangle, will host its 8th annual art festival in downtown Raleigh, N.C. More than 200 shows, acts and exhibits across more than 20 venues will take place from Thursday, Sept. 12 through Sunday, Sept. 15 from on Fayetteville Street, In addition, the events will feature more than 2,000 artists and performers, with an anticipated 35,000 spectators. SPARKcon is being organized by Visual Art Exchange, a Raleigh nonprofit whose mission is to support emerging artists and connect the community of the arts.
SPARKcon was created in 2006 by artists at Designbox, a local collaborative workspace, as an outlet for the Triangle's intellectual and artistic creativity. The festival features dance, film, music, fashion, design, poetry, theater and technology in a wide variety of events and exhibits. Despite growing in popularity each year, it remains a grassroots, nonprofit effort to maintain Raleigh's distinction as the "Creative Hub of the Southeast."
