Prof. Elongavan Raja ex-ISRO and Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre scientist, and a former member of the GSLV-MK1 core team, was the guest speaker. Raja is an ex-colleague of Late APJ Kalam & Dr. Sivan (ISRO Chairman). The webinar was conducted to encourage young generation to utilize their time efficiently during the COVD19 lock down, generate interest in aerospace, and get career guidance from experts to pursue career prospects in the field of Space, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM Education & Research).
During the discussion, Raja focused on the basics of Aerospace, its potential in India, and how kids can pursue a career in Aerospace. 40 kids across the country attended the webinar and asked several questions from space exploration, going to mars, to joining NASA and pursuing a learning path centered around Aerospace. In India, there isn’t enough awareness in the field of space, science, and technology. The intent of this webinar was to bring wealth of information about Aerospace, generate interest, and help create scientists of future.
“Our main aim is to utilize Science to its fullest and enable our young generation to contribute towards the betterment of our nation. We want to create a common platform for astronomy / astrophysics / space science enthusiast in our country. We are a team with common thinking to promote science & technology via its outreach, education and research activities on astronomy and space science. We also want to change the mindset of parents who do not support their kids to pursue career in Space Science and other related fields due to lack of knowledge or interest. Spaceport India is trying its level best to introduce a unique curriculum for Kids so that they can do practical sessions, and understand the theoretical concepts with the help of experts. We will strive to continue conducting such sessions regularly for schools and colleges,” said Sameer Sachdeva, founder of Spaceport India Foundation.
