  • (1888PressRelease) September 13, 2007 - South Centre, UNCTAD, the Center of Concern/CIDSE and the Equatorial Guinea Investment Group are co-organizing a seminar on "Debt and Trade: Making Linkages for the Promotion of Development" at Palais des Nations, Geneva on 13 - 14 September 2007.

Dr. Yash Tandon, Executive Director of South Centre will give the opening address. High-level delegations from Argentina, Benin, Mauritius, Sao Tome and Senegal would be represented in the seminar along with officials from several other international organizations and groupings, including G-24, IMF, Commonwealth Secretariat, UN-DESA and Eurodad.

This seminar is the second in a series designed to address issues and options for bringing a more holistic vision of the trade and finance inter-linkages into the actual negotiations in trade and financial fora, as well as into the design of domestic policies. It will provide resources for operationalizing the mandate to address “the consistency and coherence of the financial, monetary and trading system” formulated at the Monterrey Consensus (2002), the concept of policy space embedded in the Sao Paulo Consensus (UNCTAD XI, 2004), and the Millenium Development Goals.

The detailed program of the event and all the presentations made will become available online at the South Centre Website at: http://www.SouthCentre.org and at the South Centre Blog at:
