  • (1888PressRelease) January 10, 2015 - Source Molecular Corporation's Mauricio Larenas and Grace Anderson will be presenting in the first webinar of the California Water Quality Monitoring Collaboration Network (WQMCN) for this year and will talk about "Digital PCR, California's Source ID Manual, and US EPA tests: Developments in Microbial Source Tracking (MST)".

The webinar is scheduled for Thursday January 15, 2015, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Pacific Standard Time. Improvements in Microbial Source Tracking, including the use of advanced Digital PCR technology, release of the official California Source ID Manual, and development of US EPA tests for Human, Cattle and Dog, have enabled watershed managers throughout California to better identify the causes of fecal waste in their waterways. Source Molecular seeks to educate watershed practitioners on recent developments in Microbial Source Tracking and how they can be used to support bacteria pollution monitoring and remediation within TMDL implementation and NPDES stormwater discharge permitting.

The California Water Quality Monitoring Council partnered with the Water Board to come up with the WQMCN, a voluntary monthly Webinar where members of the monitoring community can network and exchange information and ideas on topics of interest. Sessions are planned to share technical and support tools for monitoring, assessment and reporting; to encourage discussion on common concerns like information management and program development; and to provide a forum for networking and collaboration.

The Network is currently composed of regional and citizen monitoring groups such as Alpine Watershed Group, Coastal Watershed Council, Heal the Bay, Orange County Coastkeeper, Sacramento River Watershed Program, San Diego Coastkeeper, San Diego River Park Foundation, Southern California Coastal Water Research Project (SCCWRP), USGS California Water Science Center, among others.
